Our client is a market leader and a specialist in their field. They are a large company based in Southampton and currently have a requirement for an experienced Mechanical Engineer (design) as part of their Engineering Team to deliver mechanical solutions for products and processes for internal and external customers.

This role is easily commutable from Portsmouth, Havant, Southampton, Fareham, Waterlooville, and surrounding areas.

 

The Role

Respond to sales orders and internal requirements

Propose conceptual designs and design solutions in detail to meet requirements compliance requirements

Select and specify materials

Document designs and processes so that they can be manufactured, tested and inspected

Assess technical viability of product Investigate and resolve problems and failures – identify; propose improvements to product ; process performance, reliability and cost

Provide technical training and support

Assist in procurement of mechanical components

The salary is circa £37000 per annum with benefits including medical, contributory pension, 25 days holiday and free parking.

There is also a non-contractual performance based bonus which is up to 15%.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required

Experience/knowledge of the design of integrated mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies.

 

You will need to have experience within a technical or scientific environment, with knowledge of vacuum chambers and experience working with micron tolerances.

 

Candidates from aerospace, defence, or electronics industries could be a good match, experience designing components, tooling design (e.g. jigs, fixtures etc).

 

Qualification equivalent to HND in a mechanical engineering discipline, or equivalent vocational training

 

Sound knowledge of manufacturing techniques appropriate to small batch production

 

Hands-on experience of 2D and 3D AutoCAD and Solidworks.

 

Good verbal and written communication skills appropriate to a highly technical environment.

 

 

You must have similar experience within a relevant industry, due to the level of the position this role will not be suitable for candidates who have no industrial experience.
