We are working with a client in the Southampton area to find an experienced Laser Design Engineer to carry out detailed design of laser systems, designing laser and fiber product and selecting or designing optical components.

The salary is circa £45'000 per annum with benefits including a performance based bonusscheme, healthcare, contributory pension, 25 days holiday, flexible working hours and free parking.

This company is commutable from Portsmouth, Havant, Southampton, Fareham, Basingstoke and surrounding areas.

The Role

1. Detailed design of laser systems, conceptual design
2. Designing laser and fiber products, looking at system performance and thermal considerations
3. Develop solutions and design according to optical standards and requirements
4. Leading and motivating project team
5. Selecting optical components or designing if needed
6. Tolerance analysis
7. Technical and engineering support
8. Conduct and analyse bench tests

The Requirements

1. Experience as a laser design engineer or experience of laser design, optical design, designing optical components and systems etc within your current or previous role
2. Experience working within a laser product development role/company
3. You will need to have some project experience with the ability/desire to lead projects teams, risk management experience would be beneficial
4. Professional with good verbal and written communication skills, comfortable liaising with clients and driving projects to completion
5. HND/Degree in a science, physics or relevant engineering discipline would be an advantage
6. Able to conduct and analyse bench tests
7. Experience designing for manufacture, Knowledgeable in design and development procedures
8. Strong computer skills, knowledge of Zemax modelling would be ideal but other software is fine
9. Candidates must be eligible to work and live in the UK
