Project Engineer - Aerospace Industry - Mechanical Engineering £30,000 to £40,000 per annum - Fareham

This is a varied challenging, and rewarding role within the Aerospace/Aviation industry – but if you're not passionate about Engineering than this role isn't for you. The team you would be joining are very dynamic, driven individuals who love to problem solve and get really involved with projects (with a little banter thrown in for good measure!).

This is a large company who value their employees and often promote from within so there will most certainly be a long term career opportunity for those who want it! People we have introduced to them have progressed through the company or moved into different areas of the business depending on where their strengths lie, these are most commonly project management, applications engineering, technical management, principle engineer, sales, etc.

The salary would range from £30,000 to £40,000 per annum depending on experience, as well as this they offer:

5 weeks holiday

Half day on Fridays

Flexible Working hours

Childcare vouchers

Pension Scheme

Free onsite gym

Free Parking.

If you love a fast paced environment where you will always be busy then you will thrive in this company, you will be working with a great team who are happy to impart their knowledge and support the growth of your career. This would suit someone who is looking to progress and if successful in securing the position, they would work with you to climb the career ladder in accordance with your strengths and skills.

Neil, who would be your manager, encourages autonomy and independence. He likes his engineers to look at possible solutions for themselves because you can learn so much more from than that, than he can discuss the best course of action with you. Neil said the best part of the job is "…the role is extremely varied and you get involved with every aspect of the project up to manufacture."

You would be working for an extremely successful engineering company based in the Fareham area who are ambitious and continue to grow rapidly. They have a position for a Project Engineer to look after aerospace engineering projects from conception, through design and costing etc up to toe the point it is ready for manufacture.

What would you need to do the role?

We want to find a Mechanical biased Engineer who has experience dealing with complex projects in a high value, low volume environment. You will need to have some exposure to design be that in your Mechanical Engineering degree or HND/HNC or from your work experience, they use Inventor but experience using other 3D design packages would be great. It would help if you are comfortable carrying out calculations to check designs. If you have project and design experience within a sector related to oil and gas, aviation, aerospace, nuclear, or something similar than this would be a good transition.

The most important thing is that you are self-motivated, driven, ambitious, and above all, passionate about your work. You will be speaking to many different internal departments and suppliers, so having the ability to build relationships is essential along with being able to communicate effectively and professionally. Someone who is well organised and is able to get people/internal departments to get things done, would excel in this role.

Experience in a project engineering led role would be essential to succeed, and exposure to a high value/low volume mechanical engineering/manufacturing environment. You will need to have a relevant qualification in addition to some experience in the work place. Knowledge of the Aerospace standards/requirements would be beneficial but not essential.

What will you be doing?

As a Project Engineer your role would begin with establishing project plans, monitoring and ensuring deadlines are achieved as well as keeping in touch with customers and any relevant internal departments to keep things moving. Managing document submission, technical specifications, proposals, manuals, test specifications, etc. Conducting design reviews for other Project Engineers. Analysing products to ensure design and performance specifications are met, preparing and controlling project costs to meet profit targets and agreed budgets. You will also be providing technical support to sales teams and customers when required. Liaising with sales, manufacturing, quality, estimators, sub-contractors and purchasing to ensure projects are completed on time. You will be given product training and work closely with your colleagues to ensure that you have the knowledge and skills to carry out your job to the high standard you would want.
