Royal Albert Centre is a day centre offering innovative day care for older people with dementia and high dependency needs. It is an exciting place to be for service users and staff and has the facilities to promote healthy living and wellbeing to enable older people to maintain independent living.

What is the role? Using a person centred approach you will look after the physical, emotional, culture and social needs of service users. This will include personal care, assisting service users with their lunches, organising and running activities in the unit.

You will be a key worker to specific service users, taking responsibility for keeping their care plans up to date and for ensuring their individual needs are met. You will be looking after the needs of a diverse group of service users with a wide range of care needs and this will include some moving and handling and personal care duties.

You will be expected to work as part of a team or on your own, liaise with multi disciplinary professionals in respect of the needs of service users.

You may be required to undertake driving duties as required, MIDAS training will be given. If required to drive you will need a full, clean driving licence D 1 category an advantage.

Who is the person?

You need to have:

• Patience and an understanding of the needs of older people. • To be able to support service users with their personal care. • Ideally you will have a basic knowledge of IT systems or be prepared to learn, training to be given. • Be flexible and adaptable to be able to take part in either bus driving or escort duties to meet and respond to the operational needs of the service. • Good written skills to record service user's information and write care plans and numerical skills for cash handling requirement. • Understanding of the cultural and communication needs of people from a diverse range of backgrounds. • To be able to work as part of a team and lone work. • Good communication and be able to interact well with service users, the team and other professionals. . • Willing to take part in training and development. • Be able to deal with emergencies in a calm manner. • An understanding of service user confidentiality and Data Protection and being able to follow policy and procedure such as medication administration, health and safety and strategies for working with people with challenging behaviour. • If applying for the driving aspect of the post a full driving licence with D1 category as a conditional extra, and the ability to pass the MIDAS mini bus test.
