The University of Portsmouth is seeking to appoint a 0.4 FTE Lecturer to join its friendly and dynamic School of Computing. The position is to support the School’s excellence in computing science teaching and student engagement. In this role you will be expected to provide significant specialist teaching support in the field of computer science, particularly in research methods and user experience design. We will give you the freedom to explore and innovate your own pedagogy when engaging our students. 

You will have excellent communication skills, and be able to engage, motivate and support our students. You will make significant contributions to teaching and assessment, and have a positive impact on the student experience. You should have attained, or shortly be attaining, a PhD or equivalent in the computer science discipline and should, ideally, also have relevant industrial experience.

We are a large diverse school with strong recruitment to a broad range of taught courses spanning the computing science discipline. We attract students from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures both from within the UK and elsewhere in the world. The School also has a strong and growing research profile, achieving a GPA of 2.81 in REF2014 and is currently running projects with a total value of just under £1.6 million. 

Your duties will include preparation of materials and teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You will also be asked to take on administrative and other management activities appropriate to the post, including assessment, student recruitment and unit co-ordination. Full support is provided to develop your academic skills through the APEX Programme and a post-graduate qualification, if required.
