Interview date:  18 August 2017

Climate change models increasingly suggest that parts of the southern UK may experience prolonged drier summers by the end of this century, a shift from a warm temperate to an increasingly Mediterranean-style climate. One of the potential consequences of this is a landscape made more susceptible to the occurrence of wildfires, particularly in heathland areas of southern England. This project aims to better understand this future by enhancing our ability to interpret past wildfire ‘weather’, particularly during past climates where warmer climates prevailed. The exact details of the work can be found in the project proposal, which is available on request from the Principal Investigator, Dr Mark Hardiman, to whom informal enquiries should also be made.

The candidate will primarily be responsible for configuring and running laboratory experiments and then analysing and helping to publish these data, which will ultimately enhance the study of past wildfire. They will collaborate strongly with the other project partners, both within and external to the University of Portsmouth.

The University is committed to creating and sustaining a fully inclusive culture. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities.
