25 August 2017

Interview date:  28 September 2017

Portsmouth Business School is seeking to appoint an Academic Study Support Tutor on a part-time basis, working two days a week, on Mondays and Tuesdays.  The successful applicant will join a team of five, Study Support Tutors and become a vital force in delivering support to our students at the Business School so that they can achieve their academic potential.

The post holder will primarily work with postgraduate students alongside a part-time Study Support Tutor.

This is a student-facing role, designed around the needs of undergraduate and postgraduate business and law students who are studying on taught programmes. You will work with the Business School’s highly regarded Study Support Team, enabling students registered within the faculty to enhance their academic skills, through one-to-one support, group tutorials, and classroom interventions.  The team is managed day to day by the team leader, and report to the Associate Dean of Students.

You will need to work creatively to develop relevant resources for use by academic staff and students and feed new ideas into the implementation of the Faculty’s Education Strategy.  You will be expected to develop teaching skills under the University’s teaching development programme, and undertake ongoing professional development to maintain the currency of your skills.

The candidates

Specifically we are looking for applicants

  • with both general academic and business or legal skills and the ability to work with our home and international students, and with those students studying at a distance;
  • who are team players, able to work flexibly within the team to deliver a varied programme of services for our students, within the scope of the role, and
  • who are familiar with the Higher Education environment or have empathy for the needs of students in this environment and a strong desire to deliver an excellent student centred service.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to take a work-related assessment and attend a presentation, given by the existing team, outlining the day–to-day activities of the team and the expectations of the role.  Those who successfully complete the test will be invited for interview.  This will include a presentation and a panel interview.
