The owner of Npower has announced huge job cuts across Europe, resulting in over 6000 employees losing their jobs. The company has branches all over the UK, including one in Southampton. The organisation is owned by RWE, a German energy company, who have revealed they will be making cuts of over £8 million across the business from 2014 to 2016. They believe their profit will drop in 2014 compared to that of 2013.
This reduction in costs will result in over 15 percent of the company’s workforce being slashed, but it isn’t yet known how many UK employees will be affected by the changes. It is expected that the cuts will save the company in excess of 1 billion euros.
It is an uncertain time for RWE employees, especially as it hasn’t been announced exactly where the job cuts will take place. The Southampton could well be affected by the cuts. Many UK employees could be facing an unstable next couple of years with the business.
